(7) BUDDHA'S FIRST SERMON

Sakyamuni Buddha returned to the places where he had begun his practices. He looked for his former masters to minister to them. Unfortunately, they had already passed away. Later on, he went to Kyotinyo to visit his former companions. These men despised Prince Siddharta because they thought that he had given up his practices. So, they decided to ignore him. However, when Sakyamuni Buddha approached them, they could feel the aura of his greatness. They bowed, joined their hands, worshipped Buddha, and became his first disciples. Buddha spent the rest of his life teaching Buddhism. He passed away on February 15th when he was 80 years old. His disciples later compiled his 45 years of sermons. The result is more than seven thousand sutras.
